Remote Control with Pulseway

Steps to setup remote control with Pulseway for your assigned amea IT, LLC devices.

You should already have an account setup with Pulseway - if not, reach out to us at support@ameait.com and we'll get you setup.

Click the three lines (hamburger) in the top right corner, and choose Downloads

Now on the right side under Desktop Apps, click Windows (64 bit) - assuming you are on a Windows based device
Download and install the software from that link.

Run the software and configure as follows.

Username: your selected Pulseway ID

Password: Your selected Pulseway Password

Put a check box in "Use Dedicated Server"

Type or copy and paste the following into the Server Address: ameaitllc.pulseway.com

Click Sign In

Once signed in, click the PLUS sign next to your company name

Double Click on the desired computer to remote control

Select the "Connect" option under "Share the Console Session" and click Start Remote Control in the bottom right

The first time you complete this process, you will be prompted to download further Remote Control components. Click yes on this, and once completed, once again select the Connect option under Share the Console Session

A new window will appear, and you now have remote access to your desired machine

From the top of the window, you will see a drop down bar. Click Commands, and then Ctrl+Alt+Del to send your login request to the machine if needed.

Setting up your UniFi VPN

Connecting to UniFi VPN with Windows

To use the VPN connection on Windows you don’t need to install any clients. We can use the built-in VPN client. The steps below are the same on Windows 10 and 11.

1. Click Start and type VPN, and select VPN Settings

2. Click Add VPN

3. Select Windows (built-in) as a VPN provider

4. Enter a connection name (Typically your company)

5. Enter the public IP address as provided

o This will be provided to you in a direct email

6. VPN Type: Select L2TP/IPSec with pre-shared key.

7. Enter the pre-shared key

o This will be provided to you in a direct email

8. Fill in the username and password

o This will be provided to you in a direct email

9. Click SAVE

10. Next, we need to make a modification to the VPN we just created.

o Press the Windows Key + R, and in the RUN menu type ncpa.cpl, and hit enter

11. Locate the VPN adapter named in Step 4 above and right click it and select PROPERTIES

12. Switch to the Security tab

o Enable the radio button that says “Allow these protocols”

o Place a checkbox in Microsoft CHAP Version 2 (MS-CHAP v2)

13. Click OK to save the settings

14. Click on “Connect” to test your VPN connection. It should connect automatically based on the username and password entered in step 8

Microsoft 365 Shared Calendar/Resource on Native iOS Mail App

With businesses increasingly moving to remote workforces, the need to access data on all of your devices has become more important than ever. If your company uses Microsoft 365 services there’s a good chance that you need access to not only your own personal calendar, but co-worker and company shared calendars as well. Microsoft has recognized this in recent years and has provided the ability to add shared calendars on iOS and Android devices. This has only been available however using the Microsoft Outlook app. This is great, but some of us prefer to use the native apps that come preinstalled with our iPhone’s and iPad’s. As of this post, there hasn’t been any official support for accessing Microsoft 365 shared calendars on the native iOS Calendar App. But we here at amea have recently discovered a method that appears to allow access to shared calendars via the native Calendar app found on the iPhone and iPad! Continue reading to learn how you to view Microsoft 365 shared calendars on the native iOS Calendar App.

Disclaimer: This method has been discovered and tested internally at with our systems. Your experience may vary. amea IT, LLC cannot provide any official support or guarantees for this process. It is likely that this working is the result of upcoming Microsoft 365 enhancements that have not been announced.

Log into Outlook Web Access via your web browser at https://outlook.office.com/
In the bottom left, click on the Calendar icon to switch to your calendars.
Check to see if the calendar that you would like to add to your iPhone/iPad is listed in the left pane. If it is, check whether the circle to its left is filled with a checkmark. If it isn’t, select the circle. If it is, select it to remove the checkmark and then select it again to add it back.
If the shared calendar was not already listed in the left pane, click “Add calendar” followed by “Add from directory”. Search for the person/account who owns the calendar and click Add.
Check your iPhone/iPad’s Calendar app. It may take a few minutes to sync. While waiting, click “Calendars” in the app and look for the shared calendar. Click it if there is not a checkmark to its left. If you are not seeing the data after 30 minutes, try the process again starting with step one.

6. If you’re seeing your shared calendars in your native iPhone or iPad calendar app, you’re done! We hope that you enjoy the benefits that this brings.

For those interested in the technicalities behind this workaround, it appears as though adding the shared calendar via Outlook Web Access specifically is adding a linked calendar object directly in the end user’s mailbox. When a shared calendar is added to the Outlook app on desktop, it is a linked reference that does not show up in the mailbox’s back-end folder list. Doing the add via OWA at this time though presents the calendar to the mailbox in the same way that their own calendar is listed. This can be seen by using the Get-MailboxFolderStatistics PowerShell cmdlet (tip: use “-FolderScope Calendar” to filter).

We’d love to see official support for shared calendars in the native iOS Calendar app in the future but hope that this tip works well for you until that happens.

Office 365 Room/Resource Details and permissions

Setting up Office 365 Room or Resource permissions

To change the room mailbox details we need to connect to Exchange Online with PowerShell. Use the PowerShell commands below:

$credObject = Get-Credential

This will display a prompt to authenticate you and store your credentials.
Import the PowerShell commands:

$ExchOnlineSession = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft. Exchange -ConnectionUri https://outlook.office365.com/powershell-liveid/ -Credential $credObject -Authentication Basic -AllowRedirection Import-PSSession $ExchOnlineSession

Step 2 – Set Limited details AccessRights

To show the subject and organizer we first need to give all the users limited access to the calendar. This will display the subject and location of the meeting. You need to use the following Set-MailboxFolderPermission command:

Set-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity Meetingroom:\calendar -User default -AccessRights LimitedDetails

Step 3 – Show the Subject and Organiser

To display also the Organiser of the meeting in the calendar we need to set the following for the Mailbox:

AddorganizerToSubject = $true
DeleteComments = $false
DeleteSubject = $false

Set-CalendarProcessing -Identity Meetingroom -AddOrganizerToSubject $true -DeleteComments $false -DeleteSubject $false

By default, the subject is deleted, so after we set Delete subject to false, only new meeting requests are affected. For existing meetings you will see the organizer and the location, new meetings will also have the subject displayed as you can see below:

Bonus – Changing multiple Room Mailboxes at once

If you have multiple Room mailboxes you might want to changes them all at ones, instead of changing the settings for each Room independently. First, we need to get all the Room Mailboxes:

$rooms = Get-Mailbox -RecipientTypeDetails RoomMailbox

Before we proceed let’s check if we have the correct mailboxes:

$rooms | ft

This will result in a list (table: ft = formatTable) of the room mailboxes.
To change the settings on these mailboxes we will loop through them with the following PowerShell command:

# First set the AccessRights $rooms | %{Set-MailboxFolderPermission $_":\Calendar" -User Default -AccessRights LimitedDetails}

# Display the meetings details $rooms | %{Set-CalendarProcessing $_ -AddOrganizerToSubject $true -DeleteComments $false -DeleteSubject $false}

Close your session when you’re done

When finished, type the following command to close the session:

Remove-PSSession $ExchOnlineSession

Office 365 - Calendar or Contact Permissions

Office 365 - Calendar and Contact Permissions - Powershell

Today I will be discussing how to add, and remove, contacts and calendars permissions for users of Office 365 by using PowerShell.

This can be useful should you have trouble trying to add permissions viaOutlook.

First you need to connect to the Office 365 Exchange Powershell

Open a PowerShell session and enter these commands, providing your Office 365 admin account details when requested:

$cred = Get-Credential

$session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri https://ps.outlook.com/powershell/ -Credential $cred -Authentication Basic –AllowRedirection

Import-PSSession $session

Now you can get on with the adding and removing user permissions.

Check current permissions
Before you start adding permissions, check if there are any existing permissions on the folder first. If a user already has permissions for another user’s contacts/calendar folder then you won’t be able to change them until the permissions are removed. To do this, type in the following code:

Get-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity user@domain.com:\Calendar| Select User, AccessRights, Deny

Change user@domain.com to which ever user you want to view.

Also Calendar can be changed for Contacts if you want to view who has access to the contacts folder.

Add Permissions
Now that you know the permissions for the folder, you can start adding and removing. First we shall look at adding permissions. Before adding permissions for a user, decide which permission you would like to give them. Below are the options:

Owner

Create, read, modify, and delete all items and files, and create subfolders. As the folder owner, you can change the permission levels others have for the folder. (Does not apply to delegates.)

Publishing Editor

Create, read, modify, and delete all items and files, and create subfolders.

Editor

Create, read, modify, and delete all items and files.

Publishing Author

Create and read items and files, create subfolders, and modify and delete items and files you create.

Author

Create and read items and files, and modify and delete items and files you create.

Contributor

Create items and files only. The contents of the folder do not appear.

Reviewer

Read items and files only

Custom

Perform activities defined by the folder owner.

None

You have no permission’s. You can’t open the folder.

Once you’ve chosen the permissions you wish to give the user you can add the permissions using PowerShell.

Use the following code to do this:

Add-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity user@domain.com:\Calendar -AccessRights [Permission goes here] -User user2@domain.com

Replace the User@domain.com with the mailbox you want to add permissions to and user2@domain.com to the mailbox you want to have access. Also change [Permission goes here] to whatever permission you wish to use from the list above.

Remove Permissions

Lastly, if you want to remove some permissions then you can use this line of code:

Remove-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity user@domain.com:\Calendar -User user2@domain.com

if you receive the following error message "The Sharing policy doesn't allow you to grant certain permissions to users on...

Simply check out the users alias (user@tenant.onmicrosoft.com) and try replacing both users with the tenant alias names
